Epithet: after Davidson, Friends' Mission in China.

Height: to 3.5m, an upright shrub
10 year height/spread: 2.0m/1.5m
Flowers: clusters of trusses of 3-6(occasionally 10) pale pink through
pink to purplish rose flowers, sometimes with red spotting or a red blotch (as in
the Caerhays form).
April/May.
Introduced: 1892 by Soulie from W Sichuan, China. Collected again recently.
Distribution: N.W.Yunnan, W.& S.W. Sichuan, 2200-3800m
Recognise by: flower colour, leaf blades usually bend up forming a "V", dense
small scales on leaf underside, branches not bristly as they are in
R.yunnanense.
An easily grown free flowering upright shrub. The forms with and without
prominent blotching are all worth growing.
